Ngeny always ran El Guerrouj to the line so, while it was indeed an upset, he was the only one capable of it. Wightman wasn't even in conversation for a medal so yes, it was bigger.

Jakob is NOT on the level of Hicham though. Jakob has run 3:28.32 and Jake had run 3:29.47 prior to yesterday. Many people had overestimated Jakob. Jakob being beaten is not a surprise to the intelligent. Jake beating him was a bit surprising though.

Wightman was ranked #9 in the world coming in, so not completely shocking that he raced well and won. Jakob blew his wad way too early.

He should now be called Bunny.

The huge surprises so far have been Wang mLJ, #75, and Feng wDT #15.

If T&F had honest weekly injury status reports like N.F.L. starting about 15 weeks before Olympics and World Championships, I would have wagered on men 1500m race and bet against J.I.

* It made perfect sense that a 1:44.xx 800m man, Jake W. outkicked a 1:46.xx man, J.I.

Yeah I would be surprised if the field wasn't a betting favorite. JI has run well but there were a half dozen guy a half a step back. We aren't talking about a guy who was running 3:27s and basically not losing for 4 years. But there were tons of questions about a lot of people.

For upsets in the 1500m, it has to be peter rono and then everyone else like 3 tiers back... In 2000 we expected El G to win but we also thought ngeny would be a half stride back.
