Sinclaire’s 6th place was at best the expected outcome going into the race. 1-3 would have been blackpage worthy. 4-5 would have been MF worthy. 6th is just eh. Anything worse would have been disappointing. I understand from a year ago’s perspective 6th was good but not given her expectations as of late.

The chase group got out pretty quick in 61-62. That's still too quick for them.
The issue is that there is a massive talent disparity in the 1500w, with the top 4 women able to split a quicker 800 mid-race than many of the rest of the field can run an 800 flat out. Similarly, the top women are able to open up a 1500 with a lap that many cannot even open an 800 with. They can also close a 5k or 10k (see Siffan) w/ a faster 1500 than these women's straight up 1500 PRs. That's how big the difference is.
If that chase group goes out in 58 or 59 they would have finished around 4:05-4:10 instead of 4:00.
It looked awkward but none of them stood a chance. The race was for 4th and 5th.
I believe this will be a good wakeup call for them to up their training.

Yes, meanwhile Laura Muir deserves all the praise in the world for her performance, especially coming off an injury.
Muir prepped for this exact scenario at Brit trial prelim with an all-out 800 from 300 to 1100 before shutting it down. Then did the same in finals, if I recall correctly. Sure enough, come world champs she was able to handle the brutal pace injection for that 600m. Hats off to her for coming ready to battle.

I don't blame the chase pack for their tactics in this race. They weren't good enough to run with the leaders. I blame them instead for thinking that it is still the 2010ss, when jog and kick worked at the international stage. Laura Muir took a lot of criticism in her early days for not being "tactical," but truth is she was doing what she needed to do -- learn how to run with the big fish. Now the "bad tactical runner" has a Olympic silver and World bronze, while all the alleged tactical specialists have bupkus.

they didn't need to run a 58 second opening lap. 61 or 62 is fast enough to run a 3:55. They couldn't close in the end. They aren't good enough. That's the bottom line.

The confusion on these boards is stunning. Cory McGee didn't finish 11 seconds back, in 10th place, because she dawdled. McGee finished that far back b/c she kept racing and blew herself up. Listen to what she said after the race. She knew that leading the chase pack wasn't "safe." She knew it meant she wasn't going to finish fourth or fifth, but she didn't want to sit in the back of the chase pack and win "the second race."
You can criticize McGee's choice, but you shouldn't lie about her effort. She did didn't "dawdle." She wasn't "content" to "cruise on in." She tried, as hard as she could. Her best just wasn't good enough.

She knew the best chance to medal was to stay as close to Kipyegon as possible because she wasn't going to be coming back to the field. Once a 20 meter gap formed in the first lap it was too late to close it, they were already running too fast.
