A word for American immigration: Very few Kenyans would violate their visa and abscond in order to live illegally in the United States. The so-called "American Dream" isn't real for most of us.
Kenyan authorities are notorious for doing things like this at the last minute. Ive heard many cases of athletes missing races and arriving late etc. I'd like to know when they went to the US embassy and applied.

I suspect the problem is with the US embassy, not Kenyan authorities. The rest of the team is going, aren't they? I remember once they yanked Tim Cheruiyot off the plane as he was preparing to go to Pre. Someone like Tim would never give up his idyllic farmer's life in the Rift Valley to live in America.
Also, you don't exactly have a Kenyan immigration problem over there.
Just saw he got his visa 4 hours ago, apparently. Still not enough time for him to make it and be ready. Won't make it out of the rounds after over 24 hours straight of flying.

Should be fine. We have plenty of US athletes on the west coast who travel to Europe for DL meets. Or athletes last year who train in Florida and went to Tokyo. He can make it out of a weak first round. That said, not sure why it took this long for him to get the Visa. My dads worked for the state department and it seems to be a mess.

so you're already making excuses that he won't make out of rounds because of this??
Yes. It's a 15-hour direct flight from Nairobi to New York. And I think he'll realistically need at least another 8 -10 hours to get to Eugene. His legs will feel like logs.
I say he should just scratch and focus on the Commonwealths

boggles my mind that this wasn't applied for ages ago....also, knowing there are delays, why wouldn't he go to london or some place to shorten the flight instead of waiting on the US embassy to come through?

Exactly, everyone else seems to be fine on Visas. But yeah im sure its some massive conspiracy to keep out the guy who couldn't make it out of the heats in the Olympics. Athletics Kenya is also known to be such a competent organization over its history.

Don't blame is that your country couldn't do what every other country did and fi out a visa application. Good thing your best athlete (Korir) lives here.

Did you read the article I posted? The team applied for visas at the same time. The other athletes got theirs and only his was held back. Why? I'm starting to think him whooping Kerley's butt at Kip Keino has something to do with it.
As for Korir being our "best athlete" ... whatever.
