I'm 18, 5 foot 10 and 130 pounds, and my PRs are 15:50 5k (XC) and 9:20 (3200). My resting heart rate is 50 and my max is 202, but I always have a very high heart rate during tempo runs. Except if the weather's <30 degrees, my heart rate when running tempos averages ~185 with approximately ~190 bpm for the final mile. I originally thought that this was because I had a weak heart, but having a resting HR of 50 makes me think that isn't the case.
Would running at a slower pace for tempos (maybe 40-50 seconds off 5k instead of 25) be better for me, so I can get my heart to beat at the correct BPM?
