Can you imagine running a marathon in prison?

This is the only prison that formally has its marathon. The Tamalpa Running Club coach Franklin Ruona, also trains the prisoners to complete the distance. Most of them have never run before and come from terrible backgrounds, so being able to run and accomplish a goal like finishing a marathon is great.

Is it possible to be transferred to that person if you are a marathon runner serving a sentence somewhere else ?

105 laps is pretty much a 1/4 mile track. Plenty of marathons are run on tracks. I've heard tales of people being lapped and coming back to win during track marathons.

Most Sundays I would run 13 miles around at a low-security federal prison. That was the maximum time as I had available between scheduled "counts" back in the housing unit. The "track" was a 5.5-mile blacktop loop around the rec area.

There was one former Navy officer who got special permission, once, to stay out in the "yard" long enough to run a full 26.2 marathon. Crazy.

Saturday mornings I would run an interval workout with a former West Point man. He had been a competitive swimmer, but had some decent foot-speed. Faster than me if less than a half-mile.

Typo. That was a 5.5 loops per mile "track". I wish it has been 5.5 miles.

Curious how much different this is then one of those indoor marathons. They seem to fill up.

Probably similar to running one on an aircraft carrier.
