Colleen Quigley announces that she has withdrawn from today's #USATFOutdoors steeplechase final due to a stress reaction in one of her metatarsals. She has not been able to catch a break, injury-wise, in recent years. https://t.co/CPelfvpBpm
Maybe it was the huge dance celebration after her heat that broke her foot? She did what she needed to ensure checks come in from Lulu. Showed up and finally raced. Feel sorry for her and her rushed attempt to claim her #1 steeple crown she feels she deserves, but take a back seat finally, and give it up
While not impossible, pretty rare that stress reactions show up on an X-ray. Probably a psychosomatic response to knowing she would get her ass handed to her in the finals.

I posted this in the other thread that has gone missing but something about this is fishy. Are stress reactions usually that painful that you cannot even touch the area? Also that whole last section of her in insta post where she adresses the "young girls" etc seems so melodramatic. Like chill. No one died.
But in fact she should maybe fact the reality that her body cannot handle the steeple. She did a whole two races and injured again. She has the speed to compete in flat races so maybe she needs to swap. Of course how her insta is going she might just already be down the road to modelling/influencer. Nothing wrong with that but then to cry crocodile tears with an injury the night before just ummmm seems all too convenient. Did that not also happen the last time at USAs? Where the night before she posted a video that she is injured.
I’m a Squigs fan but at this point, in the autumn of her career, why not run anyway?
Because getting 5th would have looked worse for her personal brand than a terrible injury that lets he bow out of it and maintain the facade that she is still part of the Coburn -Frerichs - Quigley steeple trifecta. She prefers all the injury sympathy rather than having to face that she is max in 9:30 shape.
I’m not sure why she hasn’t made more of an attempt to transition to flat events. She has shown that she has the speed to be competitive in the 15/5, and is clearly too fragile to run the steeple.

Stress fractures don't even show up on xrays. She either has a healed fracture that is showing up as a callous, or a frank fracture of her metatarsal. Or is lying. Or actually had a bone scan.
A metatarsal stress fractures can show up on a bone scan, even before callousing, but I would assume that she had a bone scan or similar procedure to pick up a "stress reaction." No reason not to. Also, although I once attempted to run through an Olympic Trials race with a metatarsal stress fracture, I don't recommend it for anyone who wants to return to good form anytime soon, especially someone who might be facing several steeplechase races within a few weeks.
I'm sorry not to see her back in the mix. It's been a long time. I remember when she was in the 2017 World Championships, seemed to be in the best form of her life, and got disqualified before the finals after it was determined that she had stepped on the line near the water jump in a heat. Her career seemed to lose momentum at that point, just when all three of the top American women in the event were running so well. And while she probably still has the speed to be competitive in flat races, it's hard to walk away from the steeple if you've already developed good technique in the event. (Of course, Jenny Simpson did it, with spectacular results.)

Or she has been doing this long enough and has enough experience with her own body and injuries to know what is coming on.
Not to rag on the brand or Squigs but this is definitely who Lululemon is targeting for sponsorships. Past their prime ex-olympian females. In Australia they just signed Melissa Duncan who performs more frequently and better than Squigs, but she's in a similar demo.
Did she get a non disclosure agreement / cut a deal for a positive PED test like Sha"Carri? That would align with her long recent record regarding ducking of competition.
