Seriously, this basic idea is years past due. Sure, the American viewing public may not understand the metric measurements but they official field event measurements are in metric and the athletics fan probably understands the metric measurements. It's so dumb they don't provide both measurements on the TV broadcast?

You answered your own question. Have you ever asked someone how tall they are and gotten the response, "I am 1.81 meters tall? They say 5'11". People on here love to complain about, "Why is track and field not more popular?" I'm sure eliminating imperial measurements will do wonders to help the American viewing audience.
Another change I guess we should make:
A first down in football is 9.144 meters. "It's second down and 2.16 meters to go." That will go over well.

Dude, for track and field, you put both feet and metric on TV for field event measurements. It's not that hard. I'm not talking about a total recalibration of American sports.
They should only show the official metric measurement. Feet and inches should never be used or shown. All real athletics fans only want to see the metric. That is how it is measured. Trying to show conversions just fu*ks things up.
The rest of the world gets on just fine using the metric system. The US is different and still clings to the imperial system. As far the US is concerned, I would show both marks in metric and imperial otherwise you run the risk of losing what few T&F fans you have.

Yea, but who do I contact at NBC to get this implemented? The NBC Sports Contact Us page doesn't help much.

Try Russell Dalrymple. It's been a few years since I had my pilot, but he was in charge at the time.
They should actually just show both for about 5-7 years on all coverage, including an Olympics or two - where most people actually view measurements on TV. This lets people slowly learn what the metric measurements equate to. Obviously there's any number of conversion calculator's on your phone or computer, but this would let you learn it by watching.
