In 1972 I stayed in Eugene for the Olympic Trials, $6.00 a night for a room with a bath and TV.

Don't live in New York if you want cheap trips to Eugene.

I'm in a group that's renting a campsite outside of town and camping out for Worlds. Only way we could try to keep the cost of attending somewhat reasonable. All of us have good jobs too. The price to get to Eugene is such a deterrent for people outside of Oregon.

To answer your question. I'm staying in a crappy motel for just over 300 a night, I think its 16 miles from Eugene. I'd happily pay 1000 a night for a 5 star room in Eugene for 10 days. I'm looking forward to world's but not where I'm staying

Agreed. Eugene has always been a joke. Small town in the middle of nowhere in an isolated part of the country that is hard to get to. Weather is always a hit or miss and if you have allergies, forget it. Did I mention lack of parking and hotels.

Problem is Budapest Worlds is next year and competitors and fans are thinking ahead to Hungary as the next stepping stone to the 2024 Olympics in Paris which has 1,000,000 times the TV viewers as any World meetings held.

What is the US population within a 200 mile radius of Eugene, or even within a 2 hour flight? What about pretty much any location on the east coast, especially the northeast? There’s a very simple solution to the attendance issue...the choice of location is terrible.
