Why do divorced people always say they’re single?

Single means unmarried or not in a stable sexual relationship.

Single is a generic term for not in a relationship and avaiable. Never narried, divorced or widowed are reasons for being single.

Quite a few divorced people should still be married. A very small number of married people should be divorced.

^This. Someone can be engaged and never married but they are not considered "single". What about someone in a long-term relationship, living with partner, etc.? People in those situations don't consider themselves as single. Single just means someone is not is a committed relationship.

Getting divorced equals taking a hard L. That's difficult for most divorcees to acknowledge though. They only have themselves to blame but a lot of the time, theyll blame everyone but themselves. Genuine acountability is at a premium these days.

Getting divorced is an L because getting married implies having vows of being together forever. So that's a lie and a fail right there. But yes, a divorce may salvage some individuals' sanity simultaneously, but the fact is, without the marriage, a divorce is not needed.

When a divorced person files their taxes, the status they check is single.

As a widower raising two children, I make a distinction between a single parent and a lone parent. With a single parent, there is often another parent available for the children, to assist with medical appointments and activity schedules, and to perhaps help with finances. In the case of a widow/widower, there is only one parent who is alone and must fill the shoes of both mother and father. If the something happens to you, the children become orphans.

If they aren't married, they are single. It is as simple as that.
