Currently running doubles in prep for high school XC. How far apart should they be run? Where I live it is very hot so I run at 6 am and again at around noon, before it gets too hot. Is this too close in time?

If it feels fine, it is fine. I do mine 4 hours apart. Whatever fits your schedule and feels good.
Here are some things to consider when deciding to double. You shouldn't blanket decide for every meet, take each meet separately, and look into the possibility of doubling for each meet separately:
Everybody recovers at different rates. Do you recover within enough time to run a suitable effort for the next race?
Which event is your best, the first or second event?
Are you racing it for a fast time, to place well/win, or to collect team points?
How important is the meet?
How much effort you want to put in to the race? Are you just training through the race?
Your 6 a.m. and noon approach sounds very smart to me. Wish I had thought of it in high school. Enjoy getting very good by next XC season!
Oh sorry I was just referring to doubles for summer XC training, not track meets.
Sounds fine to me, OP. And smart.

In college we would start our run around 7:30am every day and finish anywhere from 8:15-9:00am. Our coach would tell us to not do our 2nd run before 3pm but I don’t think having a little less time in between really would matter that much or at all

5 hours apart is about the lowest we would do. Less than that and we'd rather just make it a single session. Over the summer most of my athletes opt for early morning then again in the evening to avoid heat. Noon around us can be pretty brutal so 7:00am and 6:00pm (or later) is pretty common.
same with me. early-ish in the morning (about 7:30 to 8) and then in the evening.
also, I'd strongly recommend against running at noon especially if you're white (well, if you have light skin) because it's very easy to get a bad sunburn / skin cancer later
That should work! Just take your noon run nice and easy. Understand your pace can totally be slower to compensate for the heat, and you shouldn’t push for your normal “easy pace”
I like 7:30-8:00 AM and 8:00-8:30 PM. Where I live it’ll be anywhere form 75-80 degrees in those time spans, but it peaks at around 95-100 in the day so I can’t really go out when the suns out.
Great thanks to all who replied!
Second run at 8pm.
