36.86! A full second faster than the previous WR at 38.16. Anyone know whether this event is rarely run and the WR is soft or is Femke Bol just in really good fitness?

That's a crazy time! That's at 49.14 400 pace. The world record in the 400mH is 51.46, which was a huge record. I would not be surprised to see her come pretty close to the world record this year. Her 400mH pr is 52.03, which is below the pre-Sydney/Dalilah record, and amounts to a 1.76s drop from 2020 to 2021! She's a very stiff runner. Tall at 6'0". Six years ago she ran her 100m pr of 12.53, which is a mediocre high school girls time, over a second from a high national class girls 100m time in the U.S. She's also run just 23.16 in the 200m (back in 2016, she ran just 25.56 in the 200m, so probably her 100m time now would be about 11.5). She ran a very solid 50.37 400m last year, which puts her very high in the 400mH rankings for the flat 400m, and she ran 50.30 indoors this year! That suggests that she can break 50 outdoors on the flat 400m. At any rate, this race was a nearly 2 second drop for her to run 36.86 from 2020 and it's not out of the realm of possibility at all for her to break the world record in this event, because her improvement curve is very high still. She's only run the 400mH for three full seasons now, 2019-21.

Wow, she was far from perfect in that race too. She had a few bad hurdles, if she cleans it up she can break 36. She's going to challenge for the gold medal this year.

Yes I'd say the 50.30 indicates sub-50 potential outdoors and shows she's operating at a new level speed-wise. To me, she's narrowed the gap in 400m speed to relatively minimal if anything when it comes to McLaughlin. She's as fast or maybe faster than Dalilah Muhammad on the flat. I suspect she runs under 52 in good conditions and will be right there with the top 2 this summer. Pretty awesome group to watch.

VERY rarely run on the world level. Very commonly run in the USA high school ranks. Many states compete the 300mH instead of 400mH.
Professionals don't run the same 300m hurdles as high schoolers. The professionals just run what would be the 400m hurdles but starting from the 300m line. The spacing/placement for 400m hurdles and high school 300m hurdles is not the same. So you cannot compare her time to us high school times. The version that she ran had fewer hurdles than the high school version.

In the flat sprints a 36.86 300m is probably worth between 50.8 - 51.9 seconds. Now maybe there is a touch more fatigue in the hurdles than the flat distance, but it is defintely worth no worse than sub 52. Her current PB is 52.

NY State runs the 400 hurdles. Why doesn't everyone else?
NY also runs the 3000 steeple for boys.
I don't understand why they don't run the 3000 for girls and why the rest of the country doesn't run them.
