Or...this is just another example of youngsters appropriating a superlative and watering it down to so they can express their emotions somewhat ironically, as the young are wont to do. In this case, a "hater" is someone who "simply cannot be happy for another person's success, and revels in exposing the flaws in that person."

"Excellent" is another example of such appropriation and devaluation.

Yeah, if he had just run to the line as hard as possible instead of trying to position himself so it would be harder for McGorty to pass, he would not have tripped. I didn't feel sorry for him at all.

But McGorty would have beaten him even if he hadn't tripped...McGorty was in the process of passing when Bor stumbled
