To be fair, most schools do use only 1 entrance (per building) during school hours. Of course numerous other doors work as exit only. I agree with your sentiments though.

Why do people insist that "children should be safe at school"? Why would that be the case? You're dropping your beloved children off with adults who won't defend them (Uvalde PD) and teachers who very frequently turn out to be pedophiles and predators themselves. Background checks clearly do not work. Be responsible for your own family's safety. Time to do away with the failed experiment of public schools and bring back the family unit.

It will not end there. After fortification, single entry points, and armed guards, then someone will propose that no one other than teachers, students, administrators, and parents have any need to be on school grounds. Schools will become a 24/7 "safe zone" with authorized access only. School properties will be surrounded with eight foot tall security fencing and guarded/pass card vehicle access.

Apologies if this opinion is unwelcome or off topic but as an outsider looking in (not from US) I just find it completely insane that members of the public are allowed to buy assault rifles in the first place. Just baffling.

How does the people in your country act out when they have mental illness? The Texas governor made a major cut in the amount of money for mental illness.

Uh what? Obviously there are multiple exits. One entrance. Multiple exits. How are dumb people so easily riled up?

I think it is an unworkable idea but one entrance isn't the same as one exit. You can have only one entrance while having many other exits that can only be accessed from inside.

Of course these exits need to be alarmed and not allowed to be propped open. I'm in a secure facility and there is only one entrance but multiple fire and emergency exits. A loud alarm sounds while it is opened and there is no mute so you can't prop it open without loud, high pitched screeching.

The bigger question with this shooting, setting aside the gun debate that goes nowhere, is where all protocols followed. Was every door that was supposed to be locked actually locked? Was ID properly established and a buzzed door not just opened without it? Things like that. Having strict access policies are useless if they aren't strictly enforced and tested. It should be as hard for someone that doesn't belong in a school to get in as it does for them to get into a federal building.

All sports would be DONE. Crazed students from other schools might go postal during a track meet. Can't have that. Maybe arming the participants could work. Distance runners carrying loaded weapons. The fastest get free enlistment in the military as field runners ... bullet dodgers.

NHS mental health support is utterly dreadful in this country i have heard. There was one mass shooting last year but usually the person ends up killing or hurting a single person they perceived to have wronged them rather than taking it out on as many people as possible.

There was a guy in my town having an episode the other day, running around threatening kids, shouting and swearing at them. But no weapon so he was dealt with pretty quickly.

Ok, so a guy intent on killing as many people as he can shows up at your single entrance in body armor and starts firing a high powered rifle as fast as he can at everything that moves the second he opens the door. Will the cop or two at the door be any impediment to the shooter? They'll probably be dead before they can even reach for their guns. And even if the shooter is slow and lets them get off a shot or two, they're firing 9mms at a guy in body armor who is returning fire with an AR-15.

Congrats, your single entrance just delayed the shooter's progress by 20 seconds.

1. Join every other modern industrialized nation and enact strong gun laws

or

2. Imprison children

Are you confusing what the difference between and entrance and exit is?? You do realize they make two way doors in which you can lock it in one direction?
