This week, we take a close look at young phenoms in the US, Jamaica and Scotland, break down Sha'Carri Richardson's opener and tell you who had the better career, Marcin Lewandowski or Adam Kszczot. *MB:Who ran the more impre...
Juliette was .29 behind the fastest high schooler (though a pro), while Cade was .05. Cade was 5.6 s behind Rudisha, while Juliette was 6.52s behind Kratochvilova's doped up record.
I have one update for you. The line about the first Scot to break 4:00 in the mile since 1985 is missing a very important “in Scotland”! I know Kerr and I’m sure many other Scots have broken the barrier away from home soil.
Lewandoski had the better career for sure, no contest. Probably the best Polish runner of all time.
I’d disagree. I think Marcin would’ve if he’d focused primarily on the 1500 earlier. Adam had superior tactical instincts and earned the better medal success at Worlds (2 silvers vs 1 bronze). That’s more important than PBs.
Of course Julia is more impressive from jump simply because Cade just turned 19 while she is 18. If Cade breaks the 800 HSR now, he might just be the first 19 year old to do it. I can't be completely sure yet but I think he would be. That immediately dims the luster of breaking Granville's record for me. Some kids turning 19 in the summer are going to start their sophomore years in college in the fall.
Lewandoski had the better career for sure, no contest. Probably the best Polish runner of all time.
Did you look at the stats?
Kszcozt was a) faster b) won 2 global silvers outdoors in his speciality while Lewandowski won zero (1 in the 1500) and c) and won 58% of their head to head matchups.
“Rain and lightning delayed the meet by two-and-a-half hours, and even when the meet finally got underway, it still rained for much of the competition and the track was poorly-lit. It was a ready-made excuse to scratch, and a number of the biggest names in the meet (Erriyon Knighton, Grant Holloway, Erriyon Knighton) all wound up pulling out.”
Juliette! Her time would’ve won her NCAA title. Flatt would’ve been 5th.
That speaks more to the lack of depth in women's NCAA. Also, NCAA Men's times across all events is close to top world marks ....the top Men's D1 800 (1:43.69) is the fastest in the world for 2022 currently for instance. Women's D1 events are nowhere close to world marks in any event
The historic depth in women's elite 800 times is miniscule compared to the very very deep list of men's 800 performances so the comparison, even if equal or close is still apples to oranges.
Granvilles record is one of the oldest HS records whereas the girls HS 800 record keeps getting broken regularly.
