Albany School District Athletic Director Ashley Chapple reportedly asked members of the girls’ track team wearing sports bras to leave practice last week.
It's obvious that you only read the headline and not the article.
The girls were NOT suspended for wearing sports bras. They were suspended for using foul language when dealing with a school administrator.
The school and the girls agreed to continue discussing the issue of sports bras, and they said that the school's dress code may be changed effective the next school year.

I seriously doubt that all of them used vulgar language when discussing with them. It is an excuse from the admin, more likely. I would believe it if they said 1-3 were swearing at them but that is no reason to suspend the whole group. The true reason for suspension is a sexist dress code and old people unwilling to admit that younger people are right, thus they dig in their heels and make fools of themselves.
Maybe I am just desensitized because I have been around runners my whole life, but why on earth is it wrong for girls to just wear sports bras?
They were not ALL suspended for swearing. The school officials were waiting for them - which indicates they were seeking for the opportunity to take action and suspend. Not in the students best interest.

They were told to leave practice because of the way they were dressed. If administration is telling you that you are not allowed to attend a regularly scheduled practice, you are suspended, whether they called it that at the moment or not. The suspension essentially started before the alleged foul language occurred.

You just made up things that weren't in the news article, and then you convinced yourself that your imagination was true. Hardly a logical way of looking at it.
The girls were NOT suspended when they first wore sports bras. They WERE suspended after the altercation with the school administrator. The article clearly states that. I'm not sure why you feel the need to make things up just to support your imagination.
You stated that believe that it is OK for girls to wear sports bras, and that is impeding your ability to understand what actually happened.

The altercation with administrators occurred after they were sent home from practice (i.e. suspended).

There is no "i.e. suspended." The girls were sent home because they didn't comply with the dress code that said they needed to wear shirts. That's what happens when someone violates a dress code. That does NOT mean they were "i.e. suspended" as you put it.
It's actually uncommon to get suspended for a first time dress code violation. You usually just get a warning, so I'm not even sure why you imagined that a suspension happened as soon as the girls were seen in their sports bras. You are just making stuff up.

Being barred from attending a regularly scheduled event for disciplinary reasons is being suspended. That's literally what "suspended" means.

Nope. The AD said they have to cover up when male coaches are around and told them to leave practice. They then took action to be present the NEXT TIME THEY SAW THEM and suspended them.
Do you think that all of them were swearing at the officials and that is the true meaning of the suspension?
BTW - Albany Public Schools is current doing teacher professional development on teaching students to speak up for themselves. Ironic?
Maybe the poster who disagreed with me may realize I have more info than is in the article ;)

I am right
honestly says more about how the AD is looking at these girls than anything else. doesn't want other people having those same thoughts. so stupid.
The girls want to train in public wearing sports bras, we want to see them training in public in their sports bras, what's the problem? Go live in Riyadh if you don't like it.
It looks like 12 of the members were reinstated, plus they will look at the code of conduct next year. It sounds like a miscommunication happened at some point.

This is exactly correct.
What are we teaching our athletes? That it is the their fault that perverted jerks can’t control themselves when they wear activewear.
If a female identifies as a boy, may he go topless?
If a male identifies as a girl, may she wear a sports bra or even go topless?
So many issues here.
I feel like many people didn't read the article. From reading the article, what I gather is the girls are in the wrong. Maybe the AD to a slight degree, for her stated reasoning. Possibly the coaches for not shutting this down immediately. When any kid asks if they can practice with their shirt off, the answer is no. If you allow the boys to do so, girls will ask next. School policy is almost always no for hs, to my understanding.
On to my point, one of the girls said the boys were allowed to practice shirtless. But then the petition later says "the boys were asked nicely to put their shirts back on and weren't punished". It sounds like both were asked to put shirts on once admin was notified, and only the girls refused, then later came back without shirts to protest at another school event, hence the suspension.
It's obvious that you only read the headline and not the article.

You know, if they told the administrators “you’re being a bunch of f****** idiots about this,” they’d be right, and I wouldn’t have blamed them.
