Britton Wilson had an amazing meet, but when it comes to getting attention, name recognition is important.
Steiner had name recognition from her national record and national title in the winter, plus the fact that so many people have been arguing about Steiner's unusual running style.
I'm not saying it's fair, I'm just saying that the way it is.
Britton Wilson will get a lot more attention if she:
This is let's run. Sprinters only get hype here if they're white. That's a fact, name recognition be damned. If some unknown white sprinter did what Britton did, this thread will be several pages long. Search the archives and you'll find countless threads on Steiner and Boling ( who are both great), then search for threads on Offili (record holder), TT Terry, Alia Armstrong, Tamara Clarke, Anna Cockrell, Micah Williams, Terrance Laird, Joseph Fahnbulleh( All standout collegiate sprinters). If you get two pages, that's a lot. Now let a black sprinter do something negative or be perceived as problematic then LR can talk about them for days e.g SCR.
For non whites to get hype here they must first be at least a middle distance talent, be so talented that they cannot be ignored (Mu, Chelimo), be talented and considered"hot" (McLaughlin). But rest assured they are waiting to see cracks like when Mu dropped out of that mile. And someone is going to reply, "stop making it about race". I said what I said. LR does not care about sprinters unless they are white or black and "problematic". Prove me wrong.

1. Wins NCAA's
2. Makes the World Team
3. Beats McLaughlin or Muhammad in the 400H
4. Wins a World medal

It's true that this is mainly a distance message board, which is a big part of the issue.
Britton Wilson did have an amazing meet. But she hasn't set any records or won any national titles. Mu and McLaughlin did those things and got hype. Wilson will get hype if/when she accomplishes those things.

There's no denying it's distance site so sprinting and field events in general get less attention. How LR conveniently care about sprinters when they are of certain race. You don't have to like my take or even agree but please go to the archives and prove me wrong. Mu and McLaughlin I used as examples of super talented that it cannot be ignored. But search the archives there are countless threads on Steiner and Boling way before Abby even broke the indoor record. Matthew has not even broken a collegiate record. How about Offili she broke the outdoor 200m record this season, she walked away with 3 SEC titles over the weekend. She even bested Steiner on route to all those titles, I guarantee if you search you're not going to find much about her here unless it's in a thread about Abby. Oh and she's only 19. Listen any runner/sprinter regardless of race deserves hype if they're putting up the numbers. All I'm saying is that on this site sprinters who are non white rarely get attention and the archives are there to prove it.
This is an amazing performance and warrants attention and praise. Can’t wait to see what’s next from this star.
This is an amazing performance and warrants attention and praise....and cross examination.
It's such an amazing performance that it needs to be questioned, if not for her, but the sports integrity. That's a set of marks in such a short space of time, from an athlete not yet fully mature or at their peak, that no woman has ever done before. It's almost a surreal performance.
I have said on another thread that the NCAA not aligning fully to the WADA code makes me uncomfortable. Let's see her do this when she's a pro, outside the NCAA, and see if she can repeat it.

What a hypocrite!
If Femke Bol did something like this, you'd be over the moon singing her praises, and typing entire dissertations about her coach's expertise and why Femke is the next super athlete.
Spare us your fake concern and discomfort. You care nothing for the affairs of American athletics except to constantly throw it under the bus any way you can.

Thanks captain obvious. Didn’t know beating the worlds best would give her more attention.

You're absolutely correct that white sprinters get much more attention on this site than Black sprinters. My question is: Do you think it's because of racism, or is it possible that the reason is that successful white sprinters are remarkable due to the fact that they are so rare. I suspect it's the latter. A Black person winning sprint races is common, so of course they will draw less attention than a white person who does the same, particularly on a site that's geared toward middle and long distance running.
I think we've seen a similar effect in the other direction with Tiger Woods in golf and the Williams sisters in tennis. Would they be as famous as they are today if they were white? I doubt it. Certainly part of their fame is their undeniable greatness, but I think a bigger part of it is that they stand out as Black athletes winning in majority-white sports. Scottie Scheffler is the #1 golf player in the world, and I bet most people wouldn't recognize him on the street because he's just another white golfer. Even when Scheffler was dominating the Masters this year, Tiger Woods got much more attention.

But Tiger Woods and the Williams sisters are among the greatest to ever play their sports. That's a poor comparison, any recognition they got was much deserved. Also I stated clearly that the disparities I've observed are specific to THIS SITE. On LR a random white sprinter with no records to their name will generate pages of discussion. There's an entire thread about Abby's 4x4 split, yet Britton had a faster split in the same race and nobody will start a thread about that. Ofili broke the 200m record at 19, dominated the SECs, little to nothing about that. Abby, Boling and every other sprinter that puts up the numbers deserves the hype. I even get the extra hype because successful white sprinters are rare. However on THIS SITE remarkable non white athletes are completely ignored. Just count the responses in this thread and to me that says a lot

You're missing my point, which is people who defy expectations about which athletes are successful in particular sports are more likely to gain attention. Even before Tiger Woods and the Williams sisters became all-time greats, they were getting tons of media coverage and becoming well-known in the general public. Why can't the same thing be said about Scottie Scheffler?
This site is part of society, so broader societal trends and concepts still apply here. But even if you only want to limit discussion to this site, my point remains: Successful white sprinters get more attention on this site because such sprinters are rare, and they stand out in a crowd of Black sprinters. Do you agree or disagree?
Note: I've already agreed with you that there's a clear disparity between the amount of attention that white and Black sprinters get on this site. There's no debating that fact. My question to you is why is that so. I've offered one plausible explanation. I'm curious what's yours. Disko Eric seems to have an idea, but he is playing coy.
If you feel theres not enough attention given to Britton Wilson because, then try and find a site or thread that does discuss Briton Wilson to your liking, instead of crying about people’s preferences.

What a baby!
No it's just that you guys call yourselves track fans and don't acknowledge notable performances from talented track athletes.

I was the first one(i believe) to comment about Wilson defeating Young in the 400. It didnt get as much response as Steiner or Ofili. I dont care. I made my point. If people find it interesting enough to comment, fine, if not, Im not going to cry about racism or anything else.
