That nice kid from Archbishop Wood High School, who helped at packet pick-up at the 2022 Gilled Cheese & Tomato Soup Run then asked what else he could do to help,,,, and I put him in his hoodie and shorts and his girlfriend out on the course as a marshal, well he just ran a 3:57.98 mile in the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship meet. We believe that puts him #4 on the all time high school mile performers list, and looking at the list, it appears his is the fastest high school only race performance EVER!
I totally and completely sick and tired of avoidance and not getting the best high schoolers together to race one another each year. It should be a given; period!!! And if they want the interest and respect to grow, then they've got to do this. Take all these sub 4 and nearly sub 4 guys and make them square off - no bull $hit and just do it right. We all need to see Sahlman and Martin go at it head to head and more than that, they need it for themselves and for their futures. When Hall got smoked by Webb in the mile in HS it was good for Ryan because it made him into better runner who then worked even harder. Webb smoked Ritz at 10k as well later but in the end, all of them ended up being American Record holders.
Pre needs to at least publically invite him. If he wants to do the state meet fine, but Martin v Sahlman, with the possibility of Webb's record going down would be LEGENDARY
You are what is wrong with the sport. Yeah you got many upvotes and you guys are all wrong. This is not Rome and the gladiators. This is not for your entertainment as you sit back and decide what is best for you as a spectator. Who cares if you are sick and tired of these kids not racing each other? They will be facing each other soon enough. There is no need to rush this so that you can be less sick and tired. This is not about you. Let these high school kids be kids.
I agree with him. We don't need 2 national meets every season, I think that's a good start. Would love to start seeing top runners matchup several times a season.

I hate to break it to you but Pre died many years ago.

They don't have to do anything. I'm not 100% sure about this, but perhaps this is advantage Sahlman for putting himself out there all indoor and outdoor season to be noticed and earn that invite. Not 2 weeks before the race. For all everyone knew Gary Martin could've been stuck in that 4:00 - 4:02 range and never got out of it, which happens to a lot of high school runners.. Or had to deal with crappy East Coast running conditions which can happen...I'm from there and I know. As far as I'm concerned..."No Risk It...No Biscuit".

There is no deadline on the Pre field, they could add Gary Martin the night before the race if they wanted too.
Gary should go and run in the Bowerman Mile. I am honestly curious if he can be pulled to break Alan Webb's high school record?
Very little chance of that. Not sure if you understand what it is like to drop over 4.5 seconds at that level. Remember that Gary would gain from drafting but that might be offset slightly by potentially running extra distance and jostling in the pack. No doubt he can go faster than he has though.

As I recall, Alan dropped from 3:59 to 3:53 in the same circumstances, so yes, perhaps Gary (or Colin) can do it.
