All this talk of Mead, Eugene, York, etc, etc, is awesome. They were all good, there are many good debates on these teams as we've seen on many many previous threads. But what about those teams that placed second behind them at their respective state meets? Who are they, what became of them? I think the 1991 Redmond Team is by far the best 2nd place team to Mead ever. Okay, that's saying a lot and may be a smidge bloated, since many of the Ferris teams were much better in the following years. But, Redmond, going into that 1991 championship race were your typical Cinderella story... they were ranked #8th or #9th going into the final meet, no one knew anything about them and they overcame adversity, slipped by Kent-Meridian and University of Spokane and snagged the 2nd place crown. No other "west of the Cascades team" in the 'big class' (used to be 3A in 1991, now it's 4A) has EVER placed higher since then. That's a 14 year streak... Those '91 Stangs rocked. :-)
