Think Ottawa is a World Athletics silver or bronze race. They have prize money & get some good runners. But it can be warm & the course is honest.

All true. This race is often unlucky and ends up with very warm weather BUT it is a great course and very well run.

This^^^
The course has changed a number of times over the years. I've run this race maybe 4 times between ~ 1992 and 2010. It is often very warm by the end of May, and later starters for the marathon can get pretty unlucky. It has never been a fast course, and course changes over the past 10-15 years have made it hillier and slower, best I can tell. But, it is a well run race, and does usually get some decent competition.
The Saturday 10k used to draw a much deeper world class field. I think the sponsor money for that thinned out a number of years ago, not sure.
I never cared for Brian Kilrea.
The year I ran it, it was high 50s/low 60s and kind of humid. (My understanding was that it was hotter than usual.) The course was fair -- some inclines, but I don't recall any soul crushing hills.
The race was well organized and there many hotels near the start finish area, so I had a very short walk to the start. It is a big race but not huge so there was plenty of people to run with without it feeling overcrowded.

Killer has done more for his players and families that even the loudest, most detailed accolades will ever reveal. The man is a legend for good reason and the legacy he left with the 67s and the broader hockey community in Ottawa speaks for itself.
The Ottawa Marathon is an excellent race. Extremely well run. But yes, Ottawa can be extremely humid and sometimes hot in late May.
Do Ottawa. The course is not a ripper like London or Berlin, but it is decently fast. Rolls. Very well organized. Nations' capital, so stately buildings, Parliament Hill, slips into Gatineau, QC for a bit and you get to hear the French....can be a little warm....but can be near perfect.
Ottawa is quite a nice city. If in the area, take the train to Montreal. Montreal is a cool city, culturally speaking.
The last 4-6 miles are a biatch. Wide open, gets hot, eats up runenrs not used to the heat. It's a good honest race, not an easy run.
How does it compare to the Edmonton 'Thon?

I dropped out of the Edmonton one in my final attempt at the distance. It was evidently the hottest day they'd had that year. This is going back a few years. I remember enjoying the first half of the course; can't speak for the other half. My wife also ran and she finished, qualifying for Boston, which was her goal. We made the trip to Boston for the scorcher, the year before the bombing.
Both courses are easier than Boston, but obviously neither of them have anything like the same spectator support, which is out of this world at Boston. Most of the Ottawa course can be pretty lonely, except for the other runners.
Downtown Ottawa is lovely, especially with the truckers all cleared out...
