I have always loved being a minimalist runner so for me that meant buying cheap Brooks shoes ($80-90) and wearing them as long as I could. For many years, I simply didn't buy into the hype that I needed the latest model at $130+. Then came super shoes, so I tried Hoka Carbon X two years ago on sale. I could really feel the difference. So much so, that I could not wear my cheap shoes anymore. This caused me to start buying all brand shoes from $130-$160 now even if they did not have carbon plates. They all felt better to run in.
But all of these shoes seem to wear out very fast. And the higher the price it seems that the more the foam turns to brick and you have to get rid of them before injury. Seems to me that Super shoes last only about 150 miles. And daily trainers max out at 300.
Is it a conspiracy among the shoe makers to drain of us our money? Or is it a trade off for this new foam material being light? Do super shoes really cost more for the company to make or do they just know they have us addicted to them?
