Lifelong Oregonian here. Compared to most places in the U.S., we are very active and healthy. This is not a state of 300 pound lumps looking for an excuse to drink and shovel fried garbage into our maws while watching sports. We would rather be outdoors at the beaches or up in the mountains when the weather is nice rather than sitting in a chair watching something. It is a big reason why MLB has not located a franchise in Portland. Studies show that the locals would rather be doing outdoors activities during the summer months that paying over $200 to treat their family to nosebleed seats, $12 beer, and $8 hot dogs. Seattle barely fills half of their park for most home dates and only sell out when the Yankees, Giants, or Red Sox come to town because the transplants show up.
Oregon track isn't the spectacle that it was in days of yore. The fans turn out for the big elite meets but Oregon Relays and The Twilight have seen better days. I was in Eugene yesterday to watch some high school kids that I have coached. Also going on: the Duck's spring football game and fan festival, men's baseball, and women's softball. Parking sucks close to campus and football/baseball filled up the lots near Autzen Stadium.
Relax, Oregon haters! Get off of your devices and go for a nice hike.
