Hi everyone, I'm a high school senior male looking to have the best season of my life. I'm an 800m runner. In the past several weeks, I've been averaging 40-50MPW with two hard workouts a week (usually one tempo based like mile or 800 reps, and one speed workout) with a 10 mile long run on Saturdays. I also have been doing plyometric exercises twice a week with some lower body lifting when I can.
My personal bests are
400 - 50.64 (49.80 relay)
800 - 1:54.85
1600 - idek never all out raced it lmao
5k (XC) - 16:10
Long Jump - 19'2"
I'm 6'1 and 175 pounds currently, obviously on the heavier side for running, as I have a lot of muscle. I have lots of upper body mass (shoulders and back) that I think may be limiting my performance, though when I ran 1:54 last year I believe I was around 170 pounds.
Would I benefit from losing about 10 pounds over the course of the next 8 weeks, or should I just focus on training and not care what my weight is? I don't wan't to lose my power (I usually have a very good finishing kick) but I don't want excess weight to slow me down.
