OK, let's get this conversation started for Outdoor this year. Who's eating bread? What's the group shower scene like? Will Brandeis or NYU score in the double digits?
Odds are the Brandeis men's team will have more locker room scandals than total points. Maybe they'll walk home from UAAs with a couple more pictures to add to the collection.

Well, it’s looking like the entries are out so we might as well get this started. We’ll of course make changes based on who makes it to day two, but this is what we’re looking at for the men’s side.
100: With Jackson Price running a 10.5 in a hurricane and Alex Halkias with a +4, there’s no saying what happens here. I got these two going 1-2, with 60H national champ Andrew Whittaker taking third.
200: Same as the hundred, but ur throwing JHW in the mix to probably get second. Can’t see Price taking both though, giving this one to Halkias.
400: Didn’t realize emory was so good at sprints, they might even score in the double digits. Liam Fost takes it to Wagner again, with the two 7th years going 1-2. Dean takes third.
800: After the poor showing indoor season, you can expect this one to be a solid race. Sub 1:55 to make finals, with washu sending at least three of their four in.
1500: Close race for first, but we have to go ridderhoff. McLaughlin is clearly injured and/or out of shape, so we can’t expect anything faster than 4:08 (converted) from him.
5000: Not worthy of any mentions indoor, national runner up Michael Obroin has this in the bag. Jaster and Henry Meyers will make it a race though, with all three breaking the UAA record.
10,000: Sam Craig takes this by a mile. OBroin probably scared him out of the 5k, so at least he’ll still get a win.
110: NFL draft prospect Andrew whittaker wins this, with Gio taking second. Washu needs their sprints points, so we’ll give them this one.
400h: CMU actually does score points in the sprints! All-American Andrew whittaker isn’t racing, so no one’s touching CMU’s top two. Steeple: Definitely a close spread, with a strong national rankings presence. Washu looks good, but emory and cmu are right there.
4x100: Can Carnegie Mellon defend their title from 2019? Nah, but we’ll still watch anyways. Hopefully all teams have showered together to improve handoffs.
4x400: CMU comes in seeded first, surprisingly for such a poor indoor showing. WashU should take this, emory second, CMU third. Sorry chicago.
4x800: the most controversial event, this is 100% a battle between cmu and washu. Look for Brandeis to break 8:00 minutes!

The confidence you have in CMU’s 4x8 team is surprising when you consider they have one of the worst 800 squads in UAA, with only two sub 2:00 performances on the season. They might be closer to Brandeis and Case than Washu.
Fr, remember what happened the last time Obroin raced Craig longer than 5k? The margin was what, almost 2 minutes? Think Obroin made the right choice to stick with the 5k. Even that might be too much for him. He can’t make it fast from the gun (the head game isn’t there) so it’s going to be a jog fest until the last mile. It’s going to start looking a lot like that indoor 3k, where 3 guys beat him (all of whom are in the 5k outdoors). Myers has gone 3:53 in the 1500 and devastated Obroin in the 3k indoors, he’s still bricked up and he’s going to be clapping cheeks in the last mile of the 5k.
Also how the f*ck are you going to say McLaughins name in the same breath as Jacob Ridderhoff? Ridderhoff is a national champion in 3:45 1500 shape, it took 30 D1 runners to drag McLaughlin to a 3:52. Ridderhoff’s a dog, so he woof. That doesn’t mean he play fetch though.
McLaughlin closed in 2 flat to win his field that race. I’m not saying riddlehoff doesn’t have the speed to match Mclaughin’s kick, but he doesn’t have the speed to match Mclaughin’s kick. I think it’ll be close though only losing by about 2-3 seconds.
I was curious about the 4x800, so I added up the times for the teams in it - I only took times from 2022 (indoor and outdoor), rounded everything down, and took a second off if they were coming back from the 1500 or if they ran it on a flat track indoors.
On the men’s side, it was super tight. Emory-7:39
CMU, WUSTL, UC - 7:43
Case - 7:46
Brandeis - 7:51
I’m leaning towards Wash taking it (I had Ridderhoff at 1:56, I’m sure he can go faster than that) but Emory definitely has a shot. it It will be a great race and we will probably see at least 4 teams in it going into the last leg.
The championship record is 7:34, from WashU in 2016. It’s not out of the question from WashU or Emory, but it would take a very good day to see that go down.
The women’s side was more of a two-team race:
UC - 8:58
WUSTL - 8:59
Emory - 9:11
CMU - 9:18
Case - 9:31
Brandeis - 9:33
I think Chicago will win this. Emma Kelley was giving WashU a big boost with what I converted to a 2:08 from indoors nationals, but she will be getting the stick with a few second deficit against Claudia Harnett, who solod a 2:11 last weekend. That will be tough to make up. Also, I had Chicago’s Maddie Kelly down for a 2:18, but I’m guessing she’s capable of a lot more than that - she split 4:53 indoors in the DMR.
The championship record in the 4x800 is 9:07, set by Chicago in 2016. That is almost certain to fall.

😡😡😡 you’re being real dumb right now. Last year Ridderhoff closed the 1500 at nationals in 1:58 after going through 700 3 seconds faster than McLaughlin. He’s even fitter this year. He outkicked Aidan Ryan in the DMR at indoor nationals and got closed the 3k in a 58 for 4th. What did McLaughlin do at that meet? Oh yeah, he didn’t even qualify. 🥵😫😤📉
What’s the most disliked school here? It would be unreasonable to say Brandeis, nyu, or case cuz they are simply irrelevant. But how about cmu, WashU, Emory, and uchicago? I feel like we can all agree Carnegie Mellon is universally the second best at everything, so not too much to dislike there. WashU has a stick up their a*s and could not possibly be more preppy, they also look super aryan, lots to hate there. Emory Is just kinda there, south moment. Finally, uchicago kids just think they’re hot sh*t and it’s funny. They dress like they’re from Harry Potter and charm liberal arts kids with their guitars, all to run 4:25 miles. No hate there, just pity. In conclusion, WashU is the most hatable (letsrun does not allow profanity L)

washu is easily the most hateable, considering how much they hate eating bread and not being douches

WashU 100% had the least chill when I was in the UAA.

Does the Emory time that you calculated take into account how bad their handoffs are? Dropping the baton on the 800-1600 handoff? Kind of embarrassing if you ask me.
Want to add that WashU’s Whittaker is not the the only athlete declaring for the NFL draft in the UAA championships. We’ve received some great tape from Max Hill, an athlete from UChicago. He’s coming on the D side and has the potential to be a solid nfl EDGE rusher. He’s 6’5”, 220 pounds, so he needs to put on some mass before he’s ready for pro balls, but he has great strength and length, I know he’s worked out well with several teams. He has the speed and the strength to get around or through a tight line of men, the length to make some great interceptions or deflections, and he’s a great leader in the locker room and showers. We’ll definitely be very interested in his performance this weekend.
