nice... this is close to the Dana Point (Turkey Trot), nice place to run!
I was thinking of heading to cali, my gfs in LA, any other teams there? Ive heard of run LA... thanks guys...
Sounds like a good opportunity.
If anyone is interested, I can vouch for Scott Slades coaching ability. He is an excellent coach for the highly motivated athlete looking to improve.
Aliso Woods and the Laguna Wilderness Area are right next to Soka. Both areas have great fire road dirt trails to run on with scenic ocean views and, more importantly in the warm summer, ocean breezes that keeps the tempertures moderate.
who has this dude coached?
Can we get some results?
What is it with Adams State and The OC?
Coach Martin Gonzalez and Assistant Coach Jose Hernandez
at Concordia University in Irvine coached at Adams State.
Orange Coast College cross country coach Marco Ochoa attended Adams State.
Zolia Gomez went to Costa Mesa High in Orange County before going to Adams State and becoming a covergirl for running magazines.
Matt Levassiur went from Katella High in The OC to becoming a guy who runs around with nothing but tape to cover his balls at Adams State. He returned to run 30:22 at the Dana Point Turkey Trot 10K on Thanksgiving.
Well,
Corey Davidson - 1:51 800 M, 24:08 8K XC (2x all-american)
Matt LoPiccolo - 1:50.xx 800(AA), 3:43 1500 M recently
Jeremy Burt - Not sure on his stats but was an XC AA
Jay Wells - 14:38 5K 30:49 10K
Chris Verkey - 51. 400 M Hurdler (National Champion)
And a long list of 'steady' performers.
All athetes competed at Plattsburgh State University, a division 3 school in VERY upstate NY.
Just to clarify,
Mr. LoPiccolo has graduated from Plattsburgh and hence does not compete for them.
He does a lot of self-promoting and multiple-anonymous posting. It's clever. He should just be straight foward and yell at the op of his lungs he wants kids to come there and get better. People will respect that, don't be coy dude.
I like this guy,
I am not slade, I ran for him at plattsburgh though.
Sam Pitts
Mr.Pitts
Maybe you could fill us in on how he helped you.
Ran for plattsburgh for 4 yrs (00-04).
3 of those were with Coach Slade.
Ran 4:25 in high school.
3:56 1500 under coach Slade while being injury plagued.
I probably could have ran a decent 5K as well (probably aroud 14:45-14:50).
Looking back, I probably wouldn't have done anything differently.
Sam
Thanks, looks like a solid progression
woot
I read this post after being told I have been called a "self-promoting, multiple anonymous poster". I wouldn't have posted for fear of coming across as self-promoting, but now I feel I need to defend myself and clarify. In reality, this is my first post in this thread.
One of my athletes actually did start this thread (because I am assuming he is excited about what we are doing here), but I don't know who these other anonymous posters are (except we did find out who Old Cardinal is. Hi Sam.)
All I will say is that I am excited to be starting a new club here, and we welcome inquiries from anyone who may be interested. I would be happy to personally address any questions anyone may have. My contact information is on the web site. Thank you.
Scott Slade
It looks a great set up from what I have seen.
I am lvining in ireland and will be sure to make
a trip to Soka for atleast 3months next year.
people are so very quick to knock people down when
all they are trying to do is to improve the sport of
athletics.kevin English
$400 a month?
That is super duper cheap. How long can someone stay there?
What are the qualifications you are looking for?
If someone is thinking about moving into the area and wants to stay and train with the group for a month or two until they set themselves up with a job and apartment, is that ok? Or are you looking for a commitment longer than that?
Yeah, is it possible to live there for an entire year? Would a 1:54 half miler be considered good enough to join up?
Did anyone join up?
