I read in the Runners Re-United FB group that Mark Conover is in his last days in his fight against cancer. So sad. I never met the man personally but I know he his well liked by many. Always great memories of him winning the 88 trials on a tough, windy, hilly NJ course.

Very sad. I overlapped with Mark for a year at Humboldt State. Great talent and incredibly competitive, hard-working guy. I was so thrilled when he won the trials.

This is awful news. I always thought he was a great man. I remember when he ran Team USA Monterey Bay a lot of post college programs ignored me. Even though the program was on its last leg and Conover was trying to get the funding to keep it going he told me I had a spot on the team if he did which included Board. My high school teammate ran for him at Cal Poly and said he was the best. I pray that maybe there is something they can do. I would love to see him beat this and get it into remission.

I'm so sad to hear this! Mark, I ran for Miramonte High School (class of 2012) and was so inspired to learn about you back then and know that an absolute running legend had run for my school. I wish I could have known you personally but by all accounts it is clear you've touched many lives and have been a blessing to our sport. Know that you are loved well loved. I will strive to follow your lead and "cherish life."
Coach Conover was instrumental in make Cal Poly SLO a hidden gem along California's Coast. I pray that his loved ones may gather and love upon him during his final days.
