Hi all,
What is a simple 5k plan to break 17 minutes in the 5k?
Having looked through Daniels and various other plans, they all seem a bit complicated. I just want something that is really easy to follow without having to overthink about training.
What do you think about the following?
Overall weekly mileage: 40-50 MPW
3 quality sessions per week:
- Tuesday: 8-10 x 400m with 400m jogging rest in the first 4-5 weeks of the training block moving to 5-6 x 1000m with 90-120sec rest in the last 4-5 weeks of the training block
- Thursday: 20-30mins tempo run
- Saturday: 12-15 miles progressive long run (from easy to marathon pace)
3 easy run days (45-60 mins each). Rest day on Sunday.
Is this a sensible approach? Is there anything that you would change to the plan (but sticking to the principle of keeping everything simple)?
One worry of mine is that apart from the 400m reps in first 4-5 weeks, the training doesn't incorporate anything that is faster than 5k pace.
