I think it'd be cool if they took like the top 2 or 3 teams from each conference and then threw 4 or 5 conferences together for a regional meet with these top teams from each, and then took the top 2 or 3 teams from each regional meet for a national team track meet. this way actual quality of a team could be contested in terms of detph instead of in terms of a few stand-out athletes.
the team-scoring at the 'individual' track national meets is stupid--there are like 50 teams in each division with under 10 points only because a bunch of teams only send one or two athletes who score points.
I guess money is the issue here, but honestly...it's like the team element of track is non-existent at the college-level.
