Our team of 10 people, who qualified by the standard, applied immediately upon open registration. But only two were admitted. Does anybody know if New York reduced their qualified registrants buy a lot this year? I’ve never seen This happened. Just seems almost impossible that it opened and immediately closed down. I keep thinking there must be a mistake somewhere.

Happened to me too. Honestly, the time qualifications are WAY too liberal. I ran almost 20 minutes faster than the half-marathon qualifying time. I'm a bit annoyed because i specifically asked NYRR if it mattered if i qualified in an NYRR race or a non-NYRR race and they told me it did not matter. But now their website is saying they have reached max capacity for non NYRR races. I would have run a stupid NYRR race to qualify had I known that. Was hoping to be one of the top masters runners. Oh well.

Same thing happened in 2020 (Feb registration, eventually canceled by COVID). Qualifiers window was open for about 20-30 minutes before it closed with most people still waiting in the queue (I was in at the start of the queue, and barely got in after about a 20-minute wait).
Since the qualifiers' window had always been open for at least a week or two in prior years, speculation was that NYRR had significantly reduced the number of qualifiers spot (further speculation: to make more spots for 9+1 qualifiers?).
If it is true that NYRR has significantly reduced spots for both qualifiers and lottery (again, to promote 9+1 qualifiers), my guess is it will take a few years for 9+1 interest to exhaust itself. Until then it will be tough to get in if you are out of state/area, even if you have the Hobbyjogger standard 😕
NYRR time qualifier is guaranteed and not first come first serve.
Non-NYRR is not guaranteed and IS first come first serve. Your time doesn’t play any factor whatsoever as long as you hit the standard. This option is always extremely tough to nab and fills up in ~30 mins. After years of getting dinged I got through this year. I registered within 15 mins of opening.

Worth noting I am also an NYC resident. I wasn’t aware that there was preferential treatment for locals.
I got in the queue 10 minutes before registration "opened," then waited 2 hours in line before filling out the application (non-NYRR time qualifier). For the last week, my NYRR Dashboard has said "Pending." Today it says "Pending Drawing," and has a new option to withdraw from the drawing. I don't recall reading anything about a drawing, I thought it was simple first come, first served. So confusing, ha.
I now see that they've added some text to the Time Qualifier info:
"Please note that we have reached maximum capacity for non-NYRR time qualifier guaranteed entry. From this point forward, runners who apply with times from non-NYRR races will automatically be entered into the drawing."
So I guess I wasn't in the queue early enough, they have filled all of the non-NYRR Time Qualifier spots, and I am now in the general lottery with other (non-qualifier) entrants. I would assume that this is the case for anyone who has not had their entry confirmed.
I submitted my app (non-NYRR time Q) about 90 minutes after opening and got in. Maybe that's because I got "in line" early because I loaded signup page almost right away, but I wasn't in a massive hurry to submit.
Also, I could have sworn the application emphasized that time qualifiers were NOT first-come-first-serve regardless of whether it was NYRR, though that is obviously not the case.
No, the application most certainly did differentiate the difference between NYRR time qualifiers and non-NYRR time qualifiers in pretty clear-to-see text
I opened the website early as I thought it opened 8am eastern time. At some point that converted into a queue page. I waited in the queue after opening period for 1 hr and 45 minutes before I was allowed to application page. I had a time qualifier for a non-NYRR race. I got my acceptance (after verification) on Monday. Perhaps the key is opening that webpage early.
