Ok, I get it. In the winter in the northern hemisphere it’s cold and there is ice and snow. For those stuck in this environment, like HS teams and some college teams, competing indoors is better than nothing. However, there are plenty of places to compete outdoors in beautiful weather (in fact better weather than in the summer) all year round. Elites travel as they please. Races can be set up such that indoor racing is not needed. Indoor track has all sorts of odd distances and missing events and is sort of weird. I’m from California, and honestly, we don’t miss the absence of indoor competitions. Indoor is the poor stepchild of outdoor track and of course, always will be. Elite athletes, their coaches and the money people don’t really seem to care either. Why do we bother with it at all? Just reconfigure and extend the outdoor season and have more races that matter and that all athletes care about.
