I have a 10-mile race coming up in about 12 days. Training was going really well, then I caught the flu and have had lingering bronchitis for almost 3 weeks. I'm finally about 90% recovered from that and got the all-clear to run from the doctor today. I'm going to try an easy 5-miler on the treadmill soon.
The question is - is this race even really salvageable at this point? Is there any routine I can do in the next 12 days to get back some of the fitness I lost? Or should I just treat this as a 10-mile easy run?
My ultimate goal is an October marathon so this race is not really that important in the grand scheme of things. Despite that, I still don't love having shyte results 'on the books'.
