RT a true legacy and a great coach!
I loved hearing him speak at coaching seminars. He always spent time afterwards answering questions.
I met him once. In 1988, my second to last race. The old Acton MA. 5k fun run. I got to talk him through the course. He won & then came back the next week, I think & got the course record! Nice guy.
Anyone else find this a little suspicious? Why retire at the end of March? Why not just finish out the year, how much longer could he have if he went through the spring season - 10 weeks? Hope he is not ill or anything but just seems a little odd to all for sudden retire March 31st

Yes, extremely odd time to retire. Just announce you are retiring effectively after the NCAA outdoor meet or the East Regional meet.
Thomas is 15 years too late. The guy was a monster runner in his own right and had some terrific male runners at BC in the 80’s and 90’s, but sometime in the early 2000’s he and BC decided to gut the men’s program and direct all resources to the women’s team. Another Title IX move by a school that has plenty of wealth but decided to penalize men’s programs in order to expand women’s scholarships (all to save a crappy football program.) It’s the same reason BC is the only ACC school without a men’s lax program. Sad all around and Coach Thomas owns some of the blame.
Outstanding runner in his day
So, Coach Thomas is to blame for an AD, who took away men's scholarships ?!?
