I’m happy for him. He’s clearly been underperforming for a long time and is finally on track. Acknowledges that his time still isn’t really respectable for a pro but says he’s set up well for 800-Mile and hopes to break 7:50 next year indoors which I believe he can do.
Glad ot see that he seems to have turned his career around but that leads to a question.
What is his end game? Hoping to get a contract? Think we can all agree that will never happen or at least enough that he can make a living from it. Does he have a job that pays at all? Does he really make any money from his YouTube channel and even if he does how long will that pay.
There are many former college runners who have full time jobs and still can run meets like this today. But it is getting to the point where he has to admit it to himself he will never make a US meet or Fly Trials. And even if he was so squeak into a nationals what does that get him?
I predicted 8:01 in the other thread but I'll restate what I said there - he's an 8/15 guy not a 15/5k so the 3k was never going to be his forte. Good result and excited to see what happens when he adds a bit of strength!

Why are you so interested in his end game?
I think his end game is to know he gave it his best shot to see how fast he could become. I wish I had done the same when I had a chance.

Can't he just run for the same reason a lot of people run - try and get the best out of himself, see how fast he can go, how good he can be? Seems a strange mentality that you have to be pro or not run at all.
There’s a difference between running for fun and making it your full time job. Also it had to be awkward with the Beasts there and how much they all clearly can’t stand him.

It’s not getting to that point. He’s been out of school for 2 years.
If you watch his channel, he’s done very little training to achieve this and nothing he has done indicates a 7:58.
He’s shown to himself and us that he has a lot of potential for faster times.

I'm happy for him that he ran his goal too, but even if we go a year out from now and he runs 7:49, that's just not good enough for a pro. That's not good enough to get to Nationals in college right now.

I honestly think he's more suited to the 5K-10K but he's going to have to increase his training load, especially someone who doesn't have a full time job. 70 MPW really isn't much at all
He might take his local Turkey Trot this year.

THIS. My unsolicited opinion is that at the elite/sub-elite level, the 800 and 1500 have moved past his ability. Could he maybe run a 3:37 (or whatever the OTQ is) with some uninterrupted training? Perhaps. But that's not gonna get you anywhere these days. On the other hand, we don't really know fully what he's capable of at 5 or even 10K. Could be better, could be worse. I guess it depends if he's just doing this purely to see how fast he can go at 1500 (which I totally respect), or if he wants to maximize his performance relative to the competition.
