Because people will pay it. The real question is why they will pay it, but I understand that too - they have more money than they need and don't have to look for a deal on tights, they like the tracksmith aesthetic, so that's what they buy.
I do not own any insulated / windblocking items from Tracksmith because yeah, they're expensive.
However the stuff I have like singlets, shorts and long-sleeves is fine and the value seems decent. Like, singlets are a couple of bucks cheaper than Nike Aeroswift. Lighter shorts are OK, maybe a bit on expensive side but not Satisfy Running level. Off-Road shorts and the shorts that double as running and swimming wear are maybe a little expensive at almost $100 but they are unique and probably two of the best pieces of running apparel I've ever had. Merino long-sleeve is 2x the store brand merino long-sleeves in Decathlon but it's also about 3x better as it keeps its shape much better when washed and is fashioned in such a way that it can double as casual wear. So you can run an am run, wear it to the office under a shirt and run in pm again. Won't work with Decathlon ones.
My guess would be that those $200 pants would also provide some decent value. Like, on a very cold and windy day I would have to cover my sensitive areas with 3+ layers which limits my mobility. Or risk freezing my junk which hurts a lot. The thing is I'm not in the market for $200 running tight no matter how magical they are, but I'm quite certain some people are.
Because they sell $38 Sparkling Water. They've become so pretentious. Our run club (one of largest in area) are no longer using their kits. I really think they need to come back down to earth, but they are in a little bubble of no longer caring about the consumer and just continuing to be non-inclusive.

Meanwhile in East Africa they run much much much faster in champion sweat suits. If only they had northeast rich white people money to attempt a sub 16 minute 5k.
I picked up a pair of Addidas Tech-Fit 3/4 tights for $7 at a local thrift store yesterday. They have all this structural "taping" all over them that I'm not used to. I guess it's supposed to support my glutes or something. It looks weird with these big strips of tape going across my butt. I can see why these tights ended up at the thrift store. When I saw the strip of what looks like tape on
Clothing is expensive when you buy quality fabrics, and pay everyone a living wage.
If you've never splurged on high end athleticware, a lot of it is really nice. The way it looks on, the feeling, stretch, etc; is worth it if you think it is. I own some clothing from Brandt-Sorenson, wear it 5x times a day for 3-5 years and it still looks brand new due to the quality of the build.

So why did you buy them? And, how does this even remotely relate to the topic?
I bought the turnover tights because the lined Nike tights I prefer were out of stock and I moved somewhere colder and needed long tights with a liner. If more brands made lined tights I’d try others but as far as I’m aware only Nike and TS do it.
Other than that I wear TS gear because a) it is good quality and the company does something positive with the spread they make on gear and b) I can afford it.
Because people will buy it. Consumers buy expense stuff all the time that defies “financial wisdom”. The inability to comprehend that other people approach life and operate differently is the mindset of many sexually frustrated males on LRC. Not everyone wants to live a repressed life and dress like they live in North Korea, especially 99% of attractive females. Instead of lambasting Tracksmith, LRC posters should be celebrating this free market option. Guys who actually make six figures and have a super model wife understands these dynamics. The sexually frustrated do not.
