TLDR: I think the lack of workouts is making me slower + the lower mileage. Ran 5 seconds slower than my 800 PR from last month for my last race. 2:01 - 2:06.
I just couldn't get my legs to move. I was mentally prepared the whole day, hoping for PR - visualizing my race and how I wanted to run. Wasn't distracted by anything at all.
I've only been running the 800 for a month. I'm a freshman in college. Ran the 4 in high school and was bumped up. Nearly a month ago I ran a 2:01 flat, on a flat track. Last weekend I ran a 2:03 on a banked. Yesterday I ran a 2:06. My splits were 28, 31, 31, 34. I seem to be getting slower.
I run 52s and 53s in 4x4 splits. I have decent speed, I know I do.
I felt awful after my race, I didn't show it though. I kept smiling congratulating my teammates on their races.
In this case I would say it was more a physical than a mental thing. I'm usually mentally strong for the 800. I often run a faster last lap than the first, but this time - I just could not move. After coming through the 200 at 28, it felt as if I just ran a 400 at 55 or something.
I'm only doing roughly 15-20mi/wk. I've only had 1 workout this week, and 1 workout last week. They were both relatively VERY easy. Everything else has just been runs
Last week - 3x100, 800-600-400-200 w/2min rest @ 2:33, 1:49, 70, 34
This week - 4x200 @ 26 w/3' rest (26, 26, 26, 27)
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I don't feel burned out. I feel great on my runs, on workouts. Is there something I should be concerned about. I already talked to my coach but I think theres more. He said it was partially the track we ran on. Sorry for the little vent. Just want to know what I can do to be better.
(this was posted on reddit so if it looks familiar thats why)
