As Lagat said, they are going to get it this year with another shot with a faster first quarter.
So, I guess that Kerr was wrong that American runners can't compete with him and Hoare. This was faster than Millrose and that had Sowinski as a pacer.
I believe it's more to the effect that Cooper Teare's kick is well underrated!
Agreed!
I think a lot of people
A: don’t understand how kicks work, people can’t just magically go faster when they are already going all out. A kick is a combination of your aerobic strength and speed, and how slow of a pace the race has been.
B: don’t realize how good of a miler Teare is. I honestly think he could’ve made the Olympic team last cycle.
Teare seems like the real deal. Mile/3k/5k. He has some great range & great closing speed. Impressed with Beadlescomb trying to make a big move at the bell. I mean, they were going so fast that he couldn't get around but in that moment he decided to go for it. Probably cost him a little bit of time. Would have gone 3:51 at least.
This wasn’t a race, this was a time trial. And not even streamed properly. This is why Track and Field can’t gain a following. What other sport builds up a “record breaking attempt” with a tiny field and doesn’t show it/advertise it. So dumb.
You know he's right. Until I see the medals, Hocker looks like another Andrew Wheating.
I mean Hocker clearly had an awesome year last year and might have to work a year or two for another big jump, but when did Andrew Wheating ever make a WC or Olympic final again? When did he ever win a US title?
Hocker is two years younger than Teare. Both are great. I think Teare should focus on the 1500 this year given the competitiveness in the 5000. Or if they do indoors, the 3000. I would have to think he has a good shot against anybody in the 1500. The main dudes will likely be Hocker, Alexander, Centro (?), maybe a few others. In the 5000 I can’t see him beating Grant Fisher or Chelimo and there are a few good dudes that I don’t think Teare has beat previously — Kincaid, McGorty, Klecker — in addition to some that are near his level.
3000: Teare 3 - Hocker 1 (although Hocker beat him when it counted, while doubling back)
5000: Hocker 2 - Teare 1 (although Teare won at NCAAs, but Hocker was doubling)
Weird to think that Hocker has the edge in the 5000 and Teare has the edge at the shorter distances (and has never lost a 1500/mile to Hocker).
I am a broken record (and maybe wrong) but the way I see it is Hocker has outkicked Teare in the slower paced races (NCAA 3,000, Pac 12 5,000 for example) but in the faster paced races Teare gets ahead of him and he can't pass him on the kick.
