To all the experienced steeplers out there...what are the best spikes you have used for the steeple?

Two popular models are the Nike Lanang and Ventalus Plus, they both work pretty well. I prefer the Lanang because the Vantalus has a permanent christmas-tree spike plate and I like my 1/8" pins on wooden barriers. There are a couple of other models, but I think that Nike, as in most other spikes, have a step up on the competition for steeple.
I agree. Nike has some superb steeple spikes. I have the Ventalus, and really like them, but haven't steepled in them. I think they would be great though. However, if you don't prefer Nike's I like the old adidas LD spikes that I still see people wearing at NCAA's. The Puma Hurambee (sp?) are ones that a teammate of mine lives by as well. Just a thought.
Adidas also makes (or made) steeple spikes that were exactly the same as the LDs but with holes in the spike plate. I ran in them for a year and liked them a lot.
Adidas has a brand new Steeple model out. Havn't seen in in person, but I wore an 2 different Adistar Steeple shoes in college and loved them. The past 2 models were really stiff, but these new ones look like a huge improvment. I would definately give the nod to the Nike's though. If you are more of a forefoot striker go with the Lanangs, if you are a heel striker go with the Vent Plus. Both over a full OZ lighter than the Adidas. Both uppers fit simarly and I had to size down 1/2 size from the Milers or origional Ventulus.

when will the new addidas new model be out? or is it out already? any photos of them on any sites anywhere? thanks.
The older orange/black/white adistar steeple shoes are possibly the best steeple shoe ever...... If you can still find them....
otherwise, its doesn't matter all that much just punch some holes in the bottom of a pair of xc spikes.

Jeez, the folly of youth. The best steeple spikes ever were the Lydiard Steeple, white mesh with red "suction cup" outsole. I've worn others, and it's no contest. Too bad they haven't been made in 25 years. However, I still have mine as a museum piece.
I wear the Brooks Beast and shave off the forefoot and glue a spikeplate on it. Good cushion for hurdling.
I definitely agree with that. I don't know what it is about Nike, but a size XX in one model may not fit like a size XX in another. That size correction is accurate, get 1/2 size smaller Lanangs than Milers, and 1/2 size smaller Vent Plus than Vents.
Asics ld spikes, their blue and like 5.6 oz
Could someone point me to any free catalogs that carry steeple chase spikes?
eastbay.com
jasari plus. the fake leather doesn't absorb any water and it's got pinholes all over the place to drain. plus, as anyone who's run in jasari's will tell you: it's the best spike plate ever. and they're nice and flexible for good jumps and good foot-plants on the water barrier.
Having tried several types, I would say the Nike Lanang is the best currently available (although expensive). I didn't really have a preference between the Ventulus and the Adistar steeple. You don't even really need a steeple specific shoe necessarily- any light spike with a mesh upper would potentially work fine, especially if you run in other races.
I would definitely say that the Lanangs are my fave. They deal with the water better than any shoe I have ever worn, and I really like the feel of the shoe on my feet.
I Know the ohio state guys wear reeboks and they actually look pretty cool. The blue adidas ones are so stiff they kill your feet.
Brooks Z1...they are good
no, actually all of the ohio state guys wear Nike's, seeing as they have a school contract with said company. The coach was the only one who did not wear nikes. Gary had a contract with adidas and briefly with reebok. I agree, lanangs or vents, no other spikes come close
oh, i wasnt disagreeing with you about the ohio state guys, i was just giving my own opinion on steeple spikes, i like the Z1's the best
