This may be a very strange question/issue... A few years ago, I found that when running in temps below 50 degrees, after the run, I would sneeze uncontrollably and get a head cold that would last for 2-3 days. It was miserable. Since then, I've gone to allergists, tried various medicines, etc. to see if there is anything that would help. Nothing has so far. During warmer months, I have had zero instances of this same condition.
I now run on a treadmill exclusively from around Oct to May now and can't stand it. the interesting thing is, even when running indoors, going outside in the cold weather causes the allergic reaction, though not as bad as running outside. I have adjusted to having an extra long cool down inside.
A couple of weeks ago, while running, I thought about limiting my breathing through my nose during runs to see if that might help lessen the impact on sinuses/nasal/allergy issues. to my shock, this actually worked. It is challenging to force myself to limit nasal breathing, but not too bad. So, I can now run, cool down and leave the gym without the long cool down.
This make me wonder... What if I used nose clips (swimmers use them) for running outside? I'm the furthest thing from a Dr. or understanding breathing issues, but I don't know if anyone has heard of runners doing this. Possibly for different reasons.
Thoughts?
