This happened to me in high school and I'm seeing it happen again now in my 30s. Talented women training to win races want to run/train with me because I run paces that they need to be at in order to succeed.
In other words I'm not good/talented enough to win or hang with the talented/good men, but I am just fast enough where I can pace and push the talented/good women to succeed.

It's called being a fan club member. Many female distance runners check the boxes for ego centric narcissists and some times those cluster b types have what is called a fan club.

You are probably a new fan club member getting love bombed or the super friendly equivalent. But once they know your attraction is there you get bumped down to #10-#15 depending on what purpose/stimulation you serve and the attention on you is never the same.
Kind of like a selfish 3 year old and a toy box of toys whom no one else can play with but may sit there dormant until the child wants to play with it again.

A woman obviously wants to spend time with you and this is what you're focused on?? Come on, man!
You are just a 'running partner', so she can safely run wherever she wants. Simple as that. Turning this whole thing into some sexual tension game, or ego stroking game, is pretty juvenile. Just enjoy the conversation and don't over-analyze it. If she shows her cards somewhere along the line, no big deal. You can't be 'used' if you don't have false expectations.
But, all that aside, you won't be able to avoid emotional closeness and mutual support. That's a slippery slope towards seduction games. Don't get hooked into becoming a simp. Good luck avoiding all that.
