Currently, I’m a senior in high school and I’m on the varsity basketball team. My junior year I got to play a little bit but my senior year has been a pretty big disappointment. I’ve done pretty good in games that I’ve played in and I’ve started a few games and been the sixth man on a few occasions.
But lately things have not been great. I’ve sat out and received no playing time in 3 games or so, or the coach has put me in during garbage minutes which has been 10 seconds left in fourth quarter in the middle of a blowout loss. We've also only won 3 games this year and are the worst team in the conference.
I’m not understanding why this is happening as I’m always doing well in practice and even had a 14-point game earlier in the season. I asked the coach what I can do to contribute and he really couldn’t give me an answer. He seems more concerned with padding the stats of his son, a freshman, who he moved up to the varsity for no real good reason.
I’m starting to think it’s personal. We also got word today that they will be moving up two JV players to our roster. I know both of these guys and I know that they are not better than I am. I spoke to my parents tonight and said that if these two JV players play before me on Friday night I’m going to turn in my uniform.
In addition, I don't really care for about half of my teammates. They are toxic people, use drugs, and act like a**holes.
The only reason I'm staying is that I love basketball and I've never quit a sport in my life.
LR, what should I do?
Track season starts in late March and I'm thinking of just starting my training for the 800/1600 and moving on from this.
