Will Sumner ran 1:15 yesterday smashing the previous 600 record by 2 seconds. The equivalency is 46 and 1:45. This kid is going to break the 800 record before the season is over. Expect a 1:45 college freshman.

Mondo: Men (Outdoor) Pole Vault 6.05m 1280
Will: Men (Indoor) 600m 1:15.00 1222
I don't disagree with that. I was referring to running and not scoring tables because they are not great for non standard events. Just pointing out that we may have the best 800 meter runner of all-time.
The best US running high school performance is Ryan’s 3:55 mile to defeat the reigning Olympic Champ and former WR holder Peter Snell. At the time, 3:55 was only 2 secs off the WR. No other performance on the track comes close.
A 1:15 600 is legit but I have to think Obea Moore or Michael Granville could have done it if indoor was a bigger deal back in the day.

Seems a bit early...
Michael Carter 80 feet in the shot put.
IAAF tables are gonna always skew towards sprints/field events at the HS level since most runners will not have the aerobic base yet for distance events. Anyways, not sure if it counts as a HS record since he turned pro, but Erriyon Knightons 19.74 is the best performance by a High Schooler imo.

My choice is his sub 4 at the state meet running by himself.

mondos mark would’ve won every olympics and wc of years past and would currently be like 4th all time
Wow. That just convinced me. I legit didn't know that.
Damn didnt know that. Mondo #1 then and Knighton #2 for the Male side. Not as familiar with the female records

Maybe in time, yes. The best performance probably happened at some dual meet on a cinder track in bad weather.

It's Mondo and then Carter and then a gap and people can debate what is 3rd.
Bob Matthias, gold medal in the decathlon.

I’d still argue Knighton’s 19.74 is better than Mondo or Carter. Regardless or all time rank, a lot more people run the 200m than do shot & PV. Don’t have any numbers, but I’d be willing to bet, for every 1000 kids that run the 200m, 1 does PV.
Nice breakdown. Even though it only scores 1082, no one has touched Chapa's 28:32 from 1976. That was a magical year with Chapa, Hulst and McChesney breaking that record and they remain at the top of the all time list.
Robinson's 400 is approaching its 40th anniversary too; I thought someone would have broken it by now.
