Am reading several posts on here that mention both are good; for someone doing his 3rd marathon in a few weeks should I go for a 2 or a 3? I am thinking a 3 but gradual, not a hard taper.
Was running 50 for several weeks in this training block (10/18 to present). Went down one week to injury and ran 27, plus was on vacation but worked my way back up to 48-50. Goal is sub-3:20 (7:37 pace or better). I had only taken 1 week off between my marathon and my training block and felt ok so I haven't lost my base from 2/2021 to 10/2021. My 3:20:01 (lost out by two seconds, that stings more than if I ran a 3:22) was at 7:38 overall pace.
Through 23 miles I was at a steady 7:14.7/mi. pace before running the last 3.2 in 8:49, 9:03, 9:01, 9:27 (0.2 miles).
Did a 21-miler a few weeks out, at 50. Then 46 last week, with an 18 LR (8 @ goal MP and felt strong at the end, including a fast last mile). This week will be at 42-43 with 15, and some at GMP. Next week, projected to be at 33 with 10 LR, then race week (light running).
I'm not planning on BQing at this marathon, just getting my PR to a reasonable standard. I'll shoot for the BQ in the fall.
