Really good (English) Ingebrigtsen training discussion

Kristian mentions a Norwegian podcast where there have interviewed Jakob, Marius Bakken, etc. Does anyone know the name of this podcast?

Remember the Gjert inteview from last week or two ago? That interview was from this podcast. It is the biggest running podcast in Norway hosted by a commentator for the national broadcaster (2:35 marathoner) and the other host - "Kristian from Norway" who was at Inside running podkast. Kristian is a 2:21 marathoner and is also the current coach of Sondre Nordstad Moen. Although coach is not really the correct term, more of a relationship in order to stop Moen from himself as he is to stubborn for his own good.

The podkast is called "I det lange løp" and equals "In the long run". As Norway is quite small, they know "everybody who run" and most who run probably listen to the podkast. Therefore they get all the guests they want and they have most of the interesting endurance-athletes from runners to skiers and so on. House guests are Sindre Buraas (former elite athlete), Sondre Nordstad Moen, Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal (near world-class athlete at 1500-10 k).

Thank you for posting this great information! Do you know if the Ingebrigtsens work on pure speed in the winter? Shorter hill sprints with longer rest? Or at least strides close to max speed?

I've seen their base training outlined a ton over the years like in this thread. But I'm more curious about how they sharpen things in their "pre competition" and "competition phase."

I've seen some individual workouts:

1. 5 x (5x400)

2. 2x600, 2x400, 2x300, 4x200

3. 12x400, 10x200

But beyond individual stuff, not sure how they approach that phase of training. Also curious if they go back for a mini month of base after indoors.

No, this does not happen to my knowledge.

Many times, they still will do some threshold work even on some days in addition to their speed. Gjert is not so forthcoming on the details of this pre-competition/competition period.

This is referenced a bit by Kristian in the podcast.

And yes, I believe there is a return to vinter type training again for a period in build up to the summer racing.

Remember that this is volume that is gradually built. A new change into this system will have you “fried” in 4 weeks.

Please add to this discussion with the information that you receive.

Do you know how long their easy sessions are and how often? Do they do one on the saturday? Also warm ups? What do you think? I'm just curious that in order to fit 180k per week on this schedule they must be doing very long easy runs twice a day.

Also curious about the ~ 5% for hills. I think this must be 5 degrees not percent because if you look at the place they seem to do hills on tv, that route based on maps seems to be 6.5% on average with a maximum of about 8.5%.

They do 40 minutes or 10k easy twice a day on easy days

If I recall correctly their easy runs are about 1 hour at 7min/mile pace.

It is run by feel not for a typical speed. Easy days are not the time to make gains. It is the time to recover and prepare the body.

Of course you make gains by running all those km on their easy days. Don´t be silly.

Unless the route is hilly (which I doubt), no way they're running 7 mins pace. Way too slow for athlete of their caliber.

No, this does not happen to my knowledge.

They work on their pure speed indoor, by running 50m strides all out. They do that during their strength session, with plyometrics exercises etc.

This is a great thread. Let's not muck it up with unnecessary quibbling about who drank what.
