I just listened to a long interview with Jeff Milliman from Greenville, S.C. He was a good national class runner in his prime and has been in the retail business for a good while now. Much of the discussion was on marathons and training. That is primarily what this series is about. OK, that's my plug for the podcast in general.
But I was somewhat surprised to hear where it ended up going. This guy truly pioneered the whole idea of plated shoes and what many modern runners and fans were calling 'springs' in the midsole. I realize the hype. panic, and number of threads on the topic has died down now. But think back just a few years at all the excitement and uproar. Many say running truly changed forever.
Well,.....
This seems to be the guy who thought of it. This was decades- yes, decades, plural - prior to any of us talking about it. The topic caught me by surprise. I didn't know all this. You might wonder why he's not a billionaire famous for the modern road shoe. He covers that somewhat. It seems that if he was a millionaire at the time he could have made it happen.
But hey, I'm not here to defend the guy against any of you or dispute anything said later in this thread. I also do not intend to disparage anyone else in the running shoe industry. I did, however, find the discussion this topic fascinating.
