My question is simple. Does Saucony sponsor any americans that have broken 2:15 for the marathon or that have run sub 28:40 on the track in the last 12 months (I am not interested in potentials or has beens)?

if saucony wanted to make any real money through sponsorship it probably would go in this order. Household names, olympic gold medalists, or world record holders.
I was curious who was sponsoring our top athletes so I took the credentials you set forth 28:40 and 2:15 from last years list and here is the results:
1. New Balance 5 athletes
2. Adidas 4 athletes
3. Hansons 4 athletes
4. Nike 4 athletes (plus see 5)
5. Farm Team 2 athletes
6. Asics 1 athlete
7. collegiates 1 athlete
Everyone else is zero
Middleman ran for Saucony, I believe.
not a ld guy, but mcmullen is a saucony dude
Neither middleman or mcmullen ran under 28:40 or 2:15 last year.
Saucony sponsors many Triathletes. I guess they feel they will get more bang for their buck there.

Eddy H.
Yes Saucony sponsor Quality athletes. They sponsor me ,I get a picture in about 35 local newspapers every city I race.At least 3 pictures a year in RW and Running times ,almost every month there is a picture about me in National Master news Magazine.
Eddy
See you on Sunday. Good luck.
Eddy went 2:15 or better for the marathon in 2002? When and where?
Okay so it was more than 12 months ago.
Why did New Balance the brand 'endorsed by no one' drop you Eddy?
Saucony Sponsors Kevin Collins he ran 2:15 this year.
Eddy left New Balance, was never dropped because New Balance does not alow other logo's on their singlet, and he could make more money with non shoe sponsors, that is business. Good job at Carlsbad today, you won a couple bets along the way too.
Eddy nor Kevin Collins although both very nice guys in my book, neither have run sub 2:15 or Sub 28:40 in the last 12 months. Total count remains the same ZERO.
what you need to realize is that saucony sponsors athletes who not only run in the "big" races, but also their local road races. They get the name out there in their local community, and are good "ambassadors" of the sport. It's not unlike what powerbar or clifbar does also. So they don't spend a crapload of money on salaried athletes who, say, are only going to run 1:51 in the 800, but they give media incentives for pictures, tv, etc. and yes, you can have other non shoe and apparell sponsors.
As a sponsored athlete
I am sure there are athletes on this board who are much faster than me. But I guarantee you that there are few who help a company reach more prospective consumers than I do. That is why I have been, and will continue to be a Saucony athlete. Sharon recognizes that it's not about running under 28:40 or 2:15. However, if we do accomplish this; we are very well compensated for it. I am very good at what I do in my little niche in the running world. I am also a loyal Saucony promoter. I work booths at races, I coordinate with the regional and state reps to do clinics. Plus, I race EVERY weekend; get between 15-20 photo's a year in newspapers, regional running publications, etc. It's about brand PROMOTION to help sell shoes.
Eddy races alot and is recognized as a "figure" in this sport. What he does for Saucony far outweighs what some random kenyan does for his shoe company.
Alan Webb; you all hate on him. But I guarantee you with his name recognition amongst preps; NIke has probably already made the 250,000 they pay him each year in sold shoes and apparel by having him in thier stuff.
How many of you own a pair of Zoom Kennedy's?
You have to market yourself to these companies and then follow through with what you say you are going to do.
Are you saying that you have to be slower than 2:15 or 28:40 to pull that off. I contend that several of the Hanson guys have run those standards and have done a wonderful job with promoting the sport and Hanson's. Equally as important they are continuing to improve while accomplishing the promotion end of things. I realize that someone started this thread to pull someones chain as no saucony athlete falls into that category. You however, bring up an interesting point (tangent) in my mind. How many saucony sponsored american athletes have run PB's in the 10k track or marathon in the last 12 months? I don't feel like you have to give up improving in order to promote.
I heard the makers of ProCrit were looking for a few good men and women.

She sure has figured out something that Nike and Adidas and New Balance and Asics haven't figured out about selling shoes. OH WAIT A MINUTE, they are all selling more shoes than Saucony. Never mind I had my head up my ass and have no clue what I am talking about.
