So I just took a 6.5ish month break from running, which was the first time in about 7 years that I’ve had a break longer than a week. My iron was super messed up and I had mental health problems and injuries I was ignoring so I definitely needed the break to resolve a lot of that which worked pretty decently. I’m a college freshman and I want to start doing track again next semester but I have no idea how to start preparing for that without having a base (with the way it works at my school, I’m running in a club and not the actual team, so we don’t have a coach I can ask).
Thoughts? Do I just start doing mileage (I run between 1500m and 10K for reference) and cross training for now and then do workouts once the season starts or should I add workouts sooner? And would it be better to stick with shorter events for this season or does it not matter?
