Is it a 6 minute mile, 5 minute mile, or what?
Is it a 6 minute mile, 5 minute mile, or what?
Welcome back david45, now please leave again.
I feel like most young males people who train hard consistently can eventually break 5. Really anything beyond that you need a decent helping of talent.
Talent is being able to run daily without stress fractures, arthritis, plantar fasciitis and Chinese neurosis all in the same month.
God damn, you are really opening all spigots for a full on creamy fap galore today.
Hi David, it's completely relative.
A 6 minute mile is a good measure of athletic ability as a general guideline.
Even if you are a buff 240lb man who lifts weights primarily, this is still attainable.
It takes some effort and work to be able to run at 6 minute pace.
A 6 minute mile is jogging for the best runners in the world. It's almost effortless.
For someone who's new to running or carrying a lot of extra weight, a 6 minute mile is not easy.
Aim for a 6 minute mile. I wouldn't say it shows a lot of 'talent' but that's not the point.
The point is to shoot for a goal.
I would say talent comes into play when you get around 5 minutes or under.
A 5 minute mile may take a little bit of genetic advantage but is still attainable for most runners who dedicate themselves to running for at least a few years and begin in high school or earlier.
A 5 minute mile would probably be very difficult for someone getting into running after age 30.
Not impossible but very difficult unless they have a sports background.
You are just 18 or 19. I think you could potentially run a 5 minute mile down the road if you stick with running.
It may take a few years but you could get there.
