It won't take long, but you're going to have to be patient. Mix in some shorter easy runs and recovery until those five mile runs feel refreshing, as opposed to exhausting. Then you can train more seriously, with speed work, tempos and a longer run, once a week.
Consistency is much more important than going out and running hard on any given day.
