So, am aquajogging coz stress fracture recovery. My Coros Pace2 gives me a very low HR, 123 average today being the highest it’s gone in the past week. I tried putting on my Wahoo TICKR chest strap and the results were similarly low. I’m finding it difficult to believe that my HR can be that low given my perceived effort to which I’m attuned based on running, cycling etc.
Bluetooth and ANT+ don’t work under water (or don’t transmit more than a couple inches), which I’m guessing is probably why my chest strap doesn’t make much difference as it still needs to talk to my watch via Bluetooth or ANT+. Though even if it can infrequently make contact with my watch, I would’ve thought it would be more accurate.
Bottomline is my watch doesn’t “give me” enough calories for my 45 min fairly strenuous workout, which is a psychological bummer, but my watch has little to go by other than my HR. Also I’d like to be able to get more predictable HR to see if my fitness is improving (and also coz I nerd about data).
What works best for underwater HR?
