I am a high school runner currently split between Ubc and Portland State. For both schools i am paying around the same and will receive the same amount of athletic scholarship (little or none). I am having a tough time picking which school to run at.
Portland state is near my home and is D1. They run at some big meets and are in the center of running culture geographically. Their team is ok but i am an ok runner(college wise) so it works out. I think their team is on the up because of their 8th place at the west regionals but some are skeptical. They don’t really have great student life and rank much lower than UBC education wise.
UBC is 300 miles away from home and competes against Canadian schools that have ok competition. Laval the powerhouse is on the other side of the country so they do not see them very much. UBC has some olympians on their team and have an impressive squad but they do not travel as much as a D1 program would. They also compete NAIA for outdoor track. Living in Vancouver is hella expensive.
Which school would you choose?
