4 was 5 seconds back of the record. 5 was around 40th overall. What a race.

People who think times matter in cross country and are comparable across different courses, days, years, decades, etc are hilarious and wrong.

The same would hold try of marathon "records". There is no such thing. Too many "course" variables. Frivolity.
9:40 at 2 miles as per the broadcast -
Do the Math for the last mile????
Had the same thought - the website lists it as a 2.1 mile split which makes a lot more sense. Still it would mean Sahlman closed in 4:22….
They closed in well under 4:20 at woodridge

Must suck to be the 5th guy on a team like this!
If #5 was 40th or 42nd, you're doing some crazy, math to get a team score of 24 or whatever Gault reported. Were #6-41 not participating in the team score? Maybe all but 10 or 20 in the whole race were unnattached and didn't count, but it is strange that one of the team runners wasn't 15th, or 18th, or 35th.
There were 30 teams and 100 individuals in the race. Yes. 40 individuals beat their 5th.

This will be like how baseball had a deadball era. THere will be records from 19xx through 2020 and then a different set for 2021 to whenever.
“National record” and “XC” don’t belong in the same sentence. End of thread.
New cross country record! I just ran two circles around my backyard in 3 minutes 17 seconds. Want me to do it again for real on camera?

It very frustrating that meaningless fast times are being chased in XC. This is a time to build the athletes strength. By focusing on these XC times were taking away opportunities to get stronger. Last time I checked XC is not in the Olympics.
These are the high school times that matter. When NP has one athlete break a single one of these records then we should be impressed.

They will break 3 of them.
Very Impressive - But they DIDN'T ACTUALLY BREAK $HIT!!! that course was crazy flat and even a bit down hill towards the end. They are all exceptional athletes but you cant just blow off the fact that other State Champions were also running a minute PR's as well. These guys are so cool and id love to see what hey could do on the Balboa Park Course together but that's not going to happen now - Or is it??? Next year the Young Bros could easily take it down.
was 2.1, they came across 3200 in about 8:58
Crazy flat?

I thought their 2.1 was 9:41?
Must suck even more to be the 8th guy on the team that has 7 under 15.
